Excited to have in some Nepenthes 'Monkey Jars' in at the moment. This carnivorous plant lures insects into its jars with the smell of sweet nectar. Where the insect slips into the pool of digestive acid.
They're easier than you'd think to care for than you'd think.
Provide a bright location with some direct morning sun, east window ideal.
Rainwater only. Keep the compost lightly moist, not soggy. Check soil a couple of times a week. Water when the surface feels dry. Water until it runs out of the drainage holes amd allows excess to drain.
Enjoys humidity, so ideal in a kitchen or bathroom or put pebbles in the base of the cover pot and keep moist.
Ideally feed Nepenthes live insects about every 2-3 weeks, spring and summer. Such as, spiders, flies, even slugs or other small insects. You could put your plant outside overnight in warmer weather, when over 12C to catch its own food.
Repotting:
Repot every 2 years. You can get peat-free carnivorous compost.
Feeding:
Doesn’t need fertilising. Catches its own insects. If you want, you can give it the odd live insect. Avoid touching the traps to trigger them as each trap only catches around three insects, before it dies back. If multiple traps are set off this could weaken the plant.
Current size: Approx. 13cms tall x 15cms wide.
Comes in your choice of pot with care card.
